That's Rock and Roll

I think that sometimes I go on too long about the recordings I'm sharing here, so today, I'll just say that I'm offering up a classic by a lost father (or perhaps brother) of Rock and Roll, Mr. Barry Gordon, and his classic MGM release "Rock Around Mother Goose". Rock Me Another, Barry!

This is demented! Was it specifically aimed at kids? What's the flip?

This was actually a chart hit - got to # 52 in 1956, as Barry's follow-up to his role on the biggest hit version of "Nuttin' For Xmas", which was recorded by several artists, including Stan Freberg, in 1955. He was nine years old, worked on TV and broadway, and later starred in the film "A Thousand Clowns", which my mom always liked (I haven't seen it). The flip side, "Seven" is an ode to a cute seven year old girl.

I love this. We had this 45 rpm record when I was a child in the 50's. The other side was "Seven" although I'm having a difficult time finding this song on the internet.

They played this at our elementary school in the early '50s - "Seven" also. (It was precocious then, too.) Barry Gordon grew up to be President of the Scrfeen Actors Guild from 1988-1995. Go figure....

Now the damn refrain is stuck in my mind:

seven, seven, sweet and seven,
Half six, going on seven,
One plus two plus four makes seven,
Jiminy Cricket, what a gal!

Arrrgh!!!

My grandma had this! I love the 7 song! I want it so bad for my daughter's 7th birthday.
